First Look At Ghost Rider in Marvel’s AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

We were recently given our first look at Gabriel Luna, posing in costume, for his first official promo image as Robbie Reyes, aka Ghost Rider, in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Now, courtesy of TVLine, we’ve got a still of him from the show, as well as comments from series star Ming-Na Wen and producer/writer Jed Whedon about the introduction of Ghost Rider into the show’s landscape.

We’re hoping that the character has not just a flaming skull but some real heart to him, and some depth,” says Whedon.

Mainstream fans are most familiar with the Johnny Blaze version of the character, so the show will have to work hard to introduce us to this version of Ghost Rider. “I don’t know much about Ghost Rider, and I want to discover it along with the audience; What he’s about,” Wen told TVLine. “But our writers are creating a wonderful backstory for him, so he’s not just a creature that pops out of nowhere for the fun of it.

And, speaking of the “creature” aspect of Ghost Rider, Whedon was asked how often we should expect to see him in full-on flaming skull mode. “His skull is on fire exactly as much as we can afford!” Whedon quipped.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns to ABC on Tuesday, September 20.
