Game Of Thrones: HBO Head Talks Spinoffs

It goes without saying that HBO’s Game of Thrones is something of a cultural phenomenon. So widespread is its influence that the network has been hard at work crafting its replacement with a reported five series in the works.

Speaking at Mipcom, HBO head Richard Plepler discussed the spinoff shows and where they are at this stage.

“I think we will find with this embarrassment of [writing] riches an exciting property for us to moves forward with. We are looking [at] some things, I have read a couple of early bibles and I’m excited about what I’ve seen.”

So at this point, it sounds like they’re at a very early stage of crafting show bibles for these five series and deciding which of them will be the one to go forward. From the sound of it, they have plenty of time. Between the longer episodes this season and Kit Harington’s wedding, 2019’s looking like a very possible release date for the final season of Game of Thrones.

To be clear, HBO is not planning on greenlighting five separate Game of Thrones spinoffs. What this seems to be is a way for them to go through a lot of great ideas quickly and end up with the best one. When all said and done, they’ll pick the strongest one (or ones if they go for multiple, which we don’t think they plan on doing), and produce that one for the masses.

What kind of story do you want them to go with for this Game of Thrones spinoff? Let us know down below!
