*This Post May Contain Spoilers For Previous Seasons Of Game of Thrones*
For fans of HBO’s superb series, Game of Thrones, winter appears to finally be here., or close anyway, with just about a month and a half left until the premiere of the show’s seventh season, Entertainment Weekly has released exclusive photos from the set. Among the photos are Daenerys riding Drogon, Jon Snow on horseback in Winterfell amidst snow flurries., Sansa and Littlefinger up on a balcony, and Cersei and Jamie in the throne room with Cersei sitting on the Iron Throne.
The highly anticipated seventh season of the series has the potential to bring fans long awaited reunions, and long overdue first meetings. With the Starks back where they belong at Winterfell, Daenerys Targaryen finally crossing the narrow sea on her way to King’s landing, and Cersei once again on the Iron Throne, all the players are in position and the board is set.
With the new season being three episodes shorter than all previous seasons, there is really no time for the show-runners to waste. July 16 will mark the bittersweet beginning of the end for Game of Thrones. It’s always a bummer when a show like this ends, but fans should take comfort in knowing Benioff and Weiss have always had a beginning, a middle and an end to this story, and the network is allowing them to see that vision through.
Cersei definitely needs to prepare her soldiers, and herself, for the coming chaos when Daenerys Targaryen’s army and dragons raid the shores of Blackwater Bay. While the army of King Joffrey was able to stand their ground against the invasion of Stannis Baratheon in Season 2, this is a completely different fight, the main point being that Stannis didn’t have dragons, and Daenerys does. We have already seen the damage dragons can do and with Cersei assumedly all out of wildfire, the odds do not appear to be in her favor. Cersei, while having done well to survive up to this point faces her strongest enemy yet. One of many unanswered questions is what will Jon Snow do once he learns his true heritage, and how will Daenerys take to her new nephew, that has a legitimate claim to the Iron Throne?
