Game of Thrones: Sophie Turner Slams Fans Petitioning For A Remake

Well we now well into the week after the season and series finale for Season eight of HBO’s Game of Thrones. It’s interesting how we as fans always have our own theories, ideas and opinions about how a show should develop and eventually end. Sometimes it’s a satisfying ending other times it’s not. But for some fans it’s not enough to rant about their displeasure with the series, sometimes they come together and form a petition to get exactly what they want.

So with all this backlash about the ending of Game of Thrones, what do some of the stars think about the fan reaction? The New York Times caught up with Sophie Turner, who played Sansa Stark in the series, who currently in Berlin promoting her upcoming film Dark Phoenix. During this time, she took some time to talk about the ending of Game of Thrones. It is interesting to find out that she actually still hasn’t seen the ending.

“I haven’t actually watched it yet because I was alone when it came out, and I truly can’t be alone to watch it. But I read the script and I acted in it, so I kind of know what happens”, said Turner.

Since she had worked on the series since the beginning, it comes to no surprise that she would probably be very emotional watching the ending. But when talking about the negative fan reaction this season she said that she was “not surprised” as she knows that people have their own views on how a series should finish. She also gives us her opinion on how she views those creating petitions.

“All of these petitions and things like that — I think it’s disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season. Like 50-something night shoots. So many people worked so, so hard on it, and for people to just rubbish it because it’s not what they want to see is just disrespectful.”

Along with talking about the petitions she also notes that fans should not be so negative about the path that Daenerys, played by Emilia Clarke, saying that the series has “always been crazy twists and turns” right from the beginning. Personally I just believe that if you didn’t see that coming, you really weren’t paying attention, but that is just my opinion on that. Overall I do feel that the last season should have been a few episodes longer to allow the characters to have proper closure, this season really felt rushed and to me did not honor the spirit of the previous seasons.
