Taking a page out of the playbook of shows such as The Sopranos, the producers of HBO’s Game of Thrones will shoot multiple endings for Season 8 in an attempt to preserve the finale of one of the greatest television shows of all time. As reported by Bethlehem’s Morning Call News, (via Deadline) HBO president of programming, Casey Bloys, spoke about the network’s decision during a visit to Moravian College:
“You have to do that on a long show. Because when you’re shooting something, people know. So they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that there’s no definitive answer until the end.”

HBO should also consider releasing all of the Season 8 episodes at once, in the style of Netflix. This would do a great deal to prevent leaks from hackers or internal sources, as HBO has experienced both issues over the last several months. As the show has passed up the books it is based on, not even the smuggest of book readers know how Game of Thrones will end. Having had a couple notable moments from last season spoiled for me in posts on Facebook and Twitter, I am all for this, as much as I think I want to know how it ends, I really don’t. I am also excited for the eventual release of the fake endings of the show. I think his is a step in the right direction for the network in combating recent problems.
For HBO, this past year hasn’t been the best for them. As briefly mentioned above, their network was infiltrated by hackers, who took a large amount of data, including episodes, scripts and employee’s personal information. Hackers weren’t the only issue, as a couple of internal leaks caused episodes of Game of Thrones to be posted online before their intended air date.
