Game Of Thrones: Who Has Highest Odds To Take The Iron Throne?

“When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die.”

Those are the all-too-true words that Cersei Lannister said in Episode 7 of Season 1 of Game of Thrones. It was a harbinger of things to come, and a first indication of the unexpected head that would roll in the coming episodes. Of course, we all look back at Season 1, and compared to the rest of the show, it really is pretty quaint with its ONE major death. But Cersei was absolutely right.

Over the course of the six seasons of the show so far, thousands have died in battle, and more than a hefty handful of characters have lost their lives in the battle for the Iron Throne, some in a more unexpected manner than others. However, despite the arduous seasons of TV they’ve fought through, the war rages on, and there are still more than a handful of potentials left to rule the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros.

But who will come out on top on this game of thrones? The online sports book Bovada has run the numbers, and here are the odds of each current character taking the Iron Throne.

  • Cersei Lannister 10/13
  • Daenerys Targaryen 8/5
  • Gendry 7/2
  • Jon Snow 10/1
  • Tyrion Lannister 10/1
  • Sansa Stark 12/1
  • Petyr Baelish 14/1
  • Jamie Lannister 18/1
  • Arya Stark 25/1
  • Bran or Benjen Stark 35/1
  • Theon Greyjoy 40/1
  • Yara Greyjoy 45/1
  • Davos Seaworth 66/1
  • Lyanna Mormont 66/1
  • The Night King 66/1
  • Varys 66/1
  • Euron Greyjoy 80/1
  • Qyburn 80/1
  • Brienne of Tarth 120/1
  • Samwell Tarly 130/1
  • Tormund Giantsbane 130/1
  • Ellaria Sand 150/1
  • Melisandre 150/1
  • Sandor or Gregor Clegane 150/1
  • Jorah Mormont 160/1
  • Jaqen H’ghar 175/1
  • Bronn of the Blackwater 200/1
  • Daario Naharis 200/1
  • Grey Worm 200/1
  • Olenna Tyrell 200/1
  • Podrick Payne 200/1
  • Missandei 250/1
  • Gilly 300/1
  • Meera Reed 300/1

Perhaps not surprisingly, at the top of the list of Cersei Lannister with 10/13 odds. She’s sat the closest to the throne from anyone on this list, and she’s proven herself to be a cruel, power-hungry dictator who’s not afraid to stoop to low levels to stay in power. This seems like it very well could be the case, but it could be at odds with a more thematically pleasing ending.

At number two is Daenerys Targaryen, the Dragon Queen herself, with 8/5 odds. She’s spent seasons building up her army to take back the throne that belonged to her family, so it’s no wonder she’s so high on this list. In third place is Gendry, for some reason, with 7/2 odds. He’s been gone from the show for some time, but his bastard lineage from the deceased king Robert Baratheon makes him a potential candidate, though he’s made no move to do so that we know of.

Sharing fourth place are Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister with 10/1 odds each. Jon’s own low placement seems a bit odd, given that he’s just earned his place as King of the North, and given his royal lineage, yet humble origins, and his taking of the Black, it seems he’s being groomed to rule the Seven Kingdoms. Tyrion, as much as I love the character himself seems like he should have much lower odds. He may be a smart, talented, and likable, but he’s much more suited to supporting roles than actual king.
