‘Ghostbusters’ News: Director Paul Feig Reveals Character Names

Director Paul Feig doesn’t mess around on Twitter. Ask him a question, and you may very well get a response. At least that’s what happened when fans began asking the names of the upcoming Ghostbusters in his all-female reboot of the same name.

So which actor is playing which of the characters? Let’s break it down a bit, because Feig didn’t really do much to let us know who was playing whom.

  • Jillian Holtzmann (played by Kate McKinnon)
  • Erin Gilbert (played by Kristen Wiig)
  • Abby Yates (played by Melissa McCarthy)
  • Patty Tolan (played by Leslie Jones)

So there you haveit. Admittedly, it’s not much. At the end of the day, they are just names, and as far as this writer can tell, none of these names really mean anything special. There was no mention of them in previous films, nor do they allude to anything anyone has worked on previously. All the same, having a name does ultimately give fans an opportunity to latch onto the characters a bit more.

If you were hoping to put face to name, the Twitter account NYC Ghostbusters was kind enough to throw that together as well.

Feig has been pretty forthcoming on Twitter as of late. From the cast reveal, to the uniforms, car, etc., the director has been incredibly transparent about the whole process. When it was first announced that they’d be rebooting the “Ghostbusters” franchise with an all-female cast, there was a surprising amount of backlash and attention, and that attention has carried on into the production.

Since the original film’s release back in 1984, the franchise has managed to gather and retain quite the loyal fan base. “Ghostbusters III” has long since been in development hell, and only when Feig was brought on board to direct did anything actually get underway. More than thirty years after the original film (and about 27 years after the lackluster “Ghostbusters II”), the all-female reboot will hit theaters.

While some have had their concerns, every bit of news to come from production has been rather hopeful. Of course, we also can’t forget “Spy,” which was Paul Feig’s latest film to hit theaters. Any doubts that I may have personally had dissolved after seeing what he did with that Melissa McCarthy vehicle. Rest assured, no matter what this man and his collaborators come up with, it’ll likely be a whole lot of fun

The all-female “Ghostbusters” reboot is slated for a July 22, 2016 release. Does hearing the names of these characters do anything for you? Let us know your thoughts down below!
