Gotham: Who Made Bruce Wayne’s New Batsuit?

In just a couple weeks time, the fourth season of Fox’s Gotham will premiere, and with it a hope that the earliest version of the Dark Knight ever seen on screen will be prominently featured throughout the season. The show gave fans a small taste of an early Batman in the Season 3 finale, showing Bruce Wayne wearing a makeshift (probably self made) version of his bat costume, using a ski mask as a cowl, and coming to the rescue of a citizen.

The latest images show a new and slightly different suit than what fans seen at the end of Season 3, with the cowl appearing to be made of a more protective material. So, where does the latest Batsuit come from? Did Bruce Wayne make it himself? In a recent interview with TVline (via ComicBookMovie), showrunner Danny Cannon shed some light on the construction of the current cape and cowl.

“Yes, Lucius is beginning to suspect that Alfred and Bruce might have a double life and politely weaves his way in. Lucius has worked for Wayne Industries and he may work there again one day, and for right now he doesn’t want to see Bruce get hurt. So he finds a way of helping without interfering.

This seems fitting, during the show Lucius has at times been there to help Bruce and Alfred, so I can see the character reluctantly making the suit for Bruce, purely to provide him with protection. This could also be the start of Lucius making some of the awesome gadgets that Batman will use in the field. With the current state of Gotham, Bruce Wayne will need all the help he can get, and with Lucius now working in forensics, it seems he would be a powerful ally in the fight to clean up Gotham.

Gotham returns September 21 on Fox.
