Grant Gustin Says The Flashpoint Plotline Won’t Take Up All Of Season 3 Of THE FLASH

Disclaimer: This post contains spoilers for the end of Season 2 of THE FLASH.

Fans were in for a big surprise last season of THE FLASH when Barry Allen unexpectedly (read: stupidly) went back in time and saved his mother from being killed by Eobard Thawne (a.k.a. Reverse Flash). In the recent San Diego Comic-Con First Look Trailer from the CW, we had our first look of the ramifications of these actions.

If you haven’t have a chance to take a look at the trailer yet, check it out below!

While talking with Kevin Smith and IMDB, actor Grant Gustin, who plays Barry Allen in the series, said the following in defense of Barry’s actions:

“People were like, ‘Why did he do that?’ And I think that he wasn’t going to do that, but I think that sitting on that porch, having just defeated Zoom, Iris says to Barry what he’s always wanted to hear, and he feels empty inside. That was the moment… As selfish as it was that Barry wanted his parents, I think it’s more about ‘these two speedsters took away their life because of me and they deserve to have a chance at life. I can’t do this, I need to give them that chance.'”

It’s no exaggeration to say that it’s a huge thing that Barry did, and it’s only natural that most of us would expect that it would take at least a whole season for Barry to clean up the mess he created by saving his Mom, but apparently that isn’t the case.

“I think we can state Flashpoint does not last all season long,” Gustin said. “But there are permanent ramifications.”

What did you think of Barry’s decision to go back and save his mom? How long do you think it’ll take the series to wrap up the loose ends on this one? Let us know your thoughts down below!
