Usually, when a movie ends up being a dumpster fire of a disaster, studios, actors, and all relevant talent find a way to distance themselves from it. And no one can really blame them. It’s because of the mammoth flop that was 2011’s Green Lantern that the next Green Lantern film (Green Lantern Corps) was pushed to way back of the DC Extended Universe slate: they wanted to give audiences time for the bad taste to wear off. No one’s going to give the movie a chance, if they associate it with the original film, right?
Well, that makes this next rumor all the more surprising. According to TheWrap, former Green Lantern star and current Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds is on the list of potential candidates to play Hal Jordan in the eventual Green Lantern Corps film.
Here’s who else is on the list!
- Tom Cruise
- Joel McHale
- Bradley Cooper
- Ryan Reynolds
- Armie Hammer
- Jake Gyllenhaal
Not too bad of a list, though I think we could do without Tom Cruise. As much as I love him in the roles he plays, he’s a bit too old, and tends to only play variations of himself (though I guess can be said of most actors). My personal favorite on here is Joel McHale, as I can see him pull off the character’s more arrogant aspects pretty well.
But going back to Reynolds, it’s very interesting that DC and Warner Bros. seem willing to at least consider another stab at his Hal Jordan, despite the crazy failure of his first outing. Should Reynolds actually take up the mantle once again, one has to wonder if they’ll act like the first film never happened, or if they’ll try to retroactively shoehorn it into the main DCEU.
