Guardians Of The Galaxy 3: Ayesha Will Return In Upcoming Sequel

Disclaimer: This post contains spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

The recently-released Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was a cornucopia of weird characters, over-the-top humor, and boundless action. However, if it weren’t for the aforementioned characters, the other two pillars would not matter nearly as much. Perhaps more than any other Marvel franchise, the Guardians of the Galaxy is one that is populated full of dozens weird and memorable characters. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 took those characters and amped them up to 11, going so far as to have a race of golden people known as the Sovereign.

Early on in the film, the Guardians are hired by Ayesha, the Golden High Priestess of the Sovereign. However, before leaving, Rocket steals some of their anulax batteries, thereby setting off a chase that lasts the entirety of the flick. However, after a few murderous attempts from Ayesha, the Guardians come out as the victors, and Ayesha is left as a failure, waiting to be chewed out by the council for wasting resources. But Ayesha’s next plan of action comes in the form of Adam Warlock.

This would seem to imply that we haven’t seen the last of Ayesha, and speaking with IGN, director James Gunn confirmed that she would return.

“I absolutely plan on bringing Elizabeth Debicki back. She’s actually one of my favorite actors I’ve ever worked with. I think on this movie between her, Pom Klementieff who plays Mantis, and Chris Sullivan who plays Taserface, they really were three of the best actors I’ve ever worked with and were all such a joy on this film to deal with that I would love to deal with them again.”

As strange as Ayesha’s character was, she was a perfect addition to the already-strange cast of characters, and we can’t wait to see her return. Despite the race being stuck up and flat-out weird-looking, the arcade-centric group brought a lot of laughs into the fold that we’d like to see more of. Add to that her overall plot significance, and it’s clear that there’s no reason she SHOULDN’T be in the next film.
