Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the latest from Marvel Studios, is less than a month away! Joining the original cast from the first film are Tango and Cash, Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell respectively. We’ve known Russell is playing Ego the Living Planet since long before even the first trailer, thanks to director James Gunn, but we’ve had no word on what comics character Stallone has been hired to bring to life. Now, we may know!
MoviesBook tweeted an excerpt from an international press release for Vol. 2, which includes a complete list of the cast and who they are playing. Though I don’t speak Italian, the site has done the legwork and highlighted who Stallone is playing, assuming it isn’t a ruse…

That’s right, Stakar! You’ve heard of Stakar right? Maybe you know him by his other name, Starhawk?
In case you haven’t heard of Mr. Stakar, or Starhawk, he is actually a founder of the Guardians of the Galaxy in the 31st Century, though his first appearance was in 1975’s The Defenders #27. He’s usually an anti-hero, and often refers to himself as the “One Who Knows” (new Stallone catch-phrase?). He has quite a few powers, but to boil it down, let’s just say he has superhuman strength, enhanced senses, and can control light in interesting ways. Like creating concussive force blasts, flying at the speed of light, and even using light to enhance his other powers. The “One Who Knows” bit comes from the fact he believes he has precognition, but something else is going on that I won’t spoil in case it comes into play in the film.
Out of all the characters confirmed in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2., Starhawk has the closest relationship with Yondu in the comics. Both were Guardians at the same time, and would you believe it, according to the marketing Yondu is now an official part of the team! So, maybe Stallone will be an old friend?
It’s hard to tell how big of a role Starhawk will play in Vol. 2. Stallone has been absent from the marketing materials up to this point, and let’s be honest, though Marvel doesn’t go as crazy as DC with trailer spoilers, they usually show us all the characters with any sort of screen-time, only keeping the occasional villain like Dormammu truly secret. But you don’t get Tango and Cash back together for nothing, so maybe he will join the team going forward. Or, anything can happen really. Stallone might not actually be Starhawk for all we know, but this is the best lead we’ve got!
Are you a Starhawk fan? Never heard of him? What do you think of this match of actor and comics character? Let us know in the comments below!
