Mark Hamill is reprising his role as Luke Skywalker in STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII, and all eyes are on his storyline since the bulk of THE FORCE AWAKENS centered on finding him. Now that he’s been found by the new face of the series, Daisy Ridley’s Rey, folks are dying to see what that dynamic is like. Of course, the rumor on everyone’s mind- thanks to copious hints in the last film- is that Rey is Luke’s daughter.
Hamill seemed to have some fun with that theory during a recent interview, held in front of a group of fans at Oxford Union. When asked what it’s like to be the old guard working with the new blood Hamill said, “Daisy is incredible, so genuine, appealing, lovable, she beams, she has a wonderful charisma, I adore her. She’s my daughter’s age – and that’s how I relate to her.”
To this, the audience gasped. Had he just revealed what everyone has thought all along? Hamill gave a wink and wryly added, “I don’t mean anything by that. As actors that’s how I relate to that.“
Make of that what you will. If the levels of secrecy surrounding that potential revelation are at-all on the level of how George Lucas treated the Darth Vader reveal from EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, then even the actors may not know the answer to this question yet.
STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII comes out on December 15, 2017.
