With so much news coming from superhero projects every day, it can be hard to keep up with what’s going on where. One production that has kind of flown under the radar for a while, despite being the sequel to a surprise smash from 2014, is Guardians of The Galaxy 2. Well, today there’s something fairly cool to report.
The cast of the James Gunn-directed sequel is now preparing to welcome Pom Klementieff aboard. She appeared in Spike Lee’s adaptation of Oldboy, opposite Josh Brolin. These days, Brolin is busy playing Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It looks like Brolin and Klementieff are going to cross paths again because the actress is likely going to be playing Mantis!
Mantis is a psychic martial artist, the daughter of Libra, and has ties to the Kree. While she’s been around since 1973, she’s been a part of some major Guardians storylines since 2007, when she appeared as an uneasy member of the team. She had plenty to do in the Secret Invasion storyline, and is closely linked to Thanos in the books.
At one point, Mantis was rumored to be making an appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Obviously, that didn’t come to pass. But now it looks like she’ll definitely be making her cinematic debut when Guardians of The Galaxy 2 comes out on May 5, 2017.
