Hawkeye: Watch Jeremy Renner Dodge Questions About Disney+ Series

Earlier this week, it was revealed via a report from Variety that Hawkeye would not only be returning in Avengers: Endgame this coming month, but that he may very well also be returning in his own Disney+ series. The initial report said actor Jeremy Renner was attached to reprise his role as the marksman, but at this stage, it’s all still in early development, so who knows if it’ll actually end up happening. But with Renner on the press tour for Endgame, you knew the question would come up.

Jimmy Kimmel managed to take advantage of this in a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! when Renner came on. In it, he not only pokes and prods Renner, asking questions about whether or not Hawkeye would be taking on the moniker of Ronin, per the comic book source material (Renner expertly dodged the question), but whether or not reports about his own Disney+ show were also true.

“Well, that’s — look at their name,” he said, referring to the name of the outlet, Variety, “They have a ‘variety’ of stories. They have lots of different things to say.”

The game went back and forth between the two, with Kimmel saying Variety isn’t a tabloid and that they’re usually on the money, and Renner agreeing with him…which then prompts Kimmel to ask if he meant they were right in this instance.

“They could be,” Renner said. “With their stories, the variety of stories that they have. I don’t know anything about this.”

Uh-huh. Sure you don’t, buddy.

As the years have gone on, the actors have gotten better and better about hiding secrets from the press, and given he’s one of the original six, he’s gotten damn good.
