Hobbs & Shaw Writer Promises Justice For Han, Michelle Rodriguez Slams Him

If you’ll recall, way back when LRM Online contributor Brandon Jones first started here, he published a piece surrounding the idea of #JusticeForHan. As a long-time Fast & Furious fan, bringing back Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw as a lead of his own spin-off was something that needed to be addressed at some point, as the character was responsible for the death of the fan-favorite Han, who rode with the Fast Family for a few films.

In Hobbs & Shaw, there was some indication that Shaw knew he’d have to atone for his past misdeeds, and of course, the one that came to mind for many fans was Han’s death. According to screenwriter Chris Morgan, there is a plan in place for this whole thing, as he revealed to EW.

“I love ‘justice for Han. Sung Kang is a great friend, and Han is a character that I adore. I would say that the super-arc for Deckard Shaw is going to be one of the most interesting, cool, rewarding character arcs in the franchise. Justice for Han is owed. It’s something we have discussed for a very long time and want to give the right due to. I think the audience will be satisfied and should know it’s coming. There’s a line in Hobbs & Shaw that is right before the battle in Samoa where Shaw says to his sister, ‘There’s things I’ve done that I have to make amends for.’ That line was specifically written and put in there just to let everyone know that he is talking about Han — it is on his mind. It tortures him, and he’s going to get to it.”

Okay, sounds great, right? I’m on board with that, and am interested to see where this goes. However, there’s one person who begs to differ from Morgan: long-time star Michelle Rodriguez. Rodriguez took to Twitter to essentially combat what Morgan told EW.

“I’ve been around since the beginning way before Chris Morgan came along & he has absolutely nothing to do with where this narrative is or where it’s going FYI 😒 Hobbs and Shaw writer promises that justice for Han is coming.”

So…where does that leave us? Well, I think I may have to side with Morgan on this one. The reason why is because he’s the one actually using the Shaw character, and unless Shaw returns to the mainline franchise, I don’t see #JusticeForHan being addressed in any meaningful way.
