Let's face it, the wait for season seven of Game Of Thrones is going to be excruciating. Not only will it take longer than usual- with the show arriving midsummer instead of in its usual early spring window- but when it finally does come back, we know it's going to be a shorter-than-usual season. When you combine that with the explosive season finale we witnessed earlier this year you end up with a lot of chewed-up fingernails.
A new rumor making the rounds should help get the juices flowing, though, and give you something to think about while you wait for Game Of Thrones to return.
*WARNING: If True, These Rumors Are SPOILERIFIC!*
Back in season three, the writers of Game Of Thrones who, at the time, were working off of the books by George R. R. Martin, posed a very intriguing question. If what I'm about to share with you is true, it could very well mean that we're going to get an answer to that question four years after it was asked. So what question am I referring to?
What will become of Robert Baratheon's bastard son Gendry?
See, if you'll recall, Robert had a bastard son named Gendry whom- as it turns out- could be his only actual heir these days. His other children were all really the products of the incestuous relationship between Cersei (Lena Headey) and Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), and not actually Baratheons at all. During season 3, Gendry is taken captive by Melisandre, used to help create a curse that would help Robert's brother Stannis, and then released by a sympathetic Davos.
Gendry escaped on a boat...never to be seen again.
Or so we thought.
In the four years since, Stannis has died, Robert's supposed kids have also all died, and now Cersei- Robert's widow- sits atop the iron throne. If Gendry were to show up in Kings Landing with the ability to prove his parentage, and therefore reveal himself to be a true heir to the throne, it would provide quite a wicked twist for Cersei to have to deal with.
So why am I bringing all this up? Because Game Of Thrones is currently filming in Belfast, Ireland and guess who was just spotted at an airport there? Joe Dempsie, the man who played Gendry.
According to the Watchers On The Wall, Dempsie is in town and it seems likely that his character is going to make his presence felt in the seventh season of Game Of Thrones, and now that all of his father's "legitimate" children are dead...it looks like the time is right for Gendry to step up and add the latest intriguing twist in HBO's hit saga.
Also, we should remember that Gendry was pretty tight with Arya (Maisie Williams), who is officially back in Westeros and ready to continue her quest. Could she and Gendry cross paths and work together?
The possibilities are endless.
Just like the wait for Game Of Thrones season 7.
