How Zack Snyder Chose Jason Momoa As Aquaman

Jason Momoa being cast as Arthur Curry/Aquaman wasn’t the most traditional choice for the character, this new direction did away with the Atlantean king’s trademark blonde locks, but Zack Snyder had a vision, and that vision is about to play out in the form of Justice League. Justice League producer (and Zack Snyder’s wife) Deborah Snyder, told the Los Angeles Times, how the idea of casting Momoa came about:

“We’re big Game of Thrones fans. I remember Jason Momoa [as Dothraki chieftain Khal Drogo]. Zack was like, ‘Jason would be the perfect Aquaman.’ I was like, ‘It’s so out of the box. But yeah!’ He can be tough. And he feels like he comes from the water.”

The character needed a fresh take, for the most part, Aquaman has been the source of many fish related jokes and was only given respect by the hardcore comic nerds. I think casting Momoa was the right choice, and for some weird reason, I get why Zack Snyder said, “He feels like he comes from the water.” Perhaps it comes form me already seeing him as the character. As I have said in other articles, Momoa makes Aquaman cool, something the character hasn’t been thought of as for quite a while.
