Hunt Some Bugs With Your Official Alien 40th Anniversary Ripley Stomper Sneakers

Sigourney Weaver suggests she is done playing Ripley in the Alien franchise for good.

Alien is turning 40 this year and you may have noticed that folks around the internet are celebrating the iconic film. From the release of the 40th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray to original shorts being released on IGN in collaboration with 20th Century Fox. Well now, Reebok is getting in on the action.

Ellen Ripley, protagonist of the Alien films, wore “Alien Stompers” in the 1986 film, Aliens. These are not to be confused with the Converse All-Star Hi-tops worn by her and the crew of the Nostromo while fighting for their survival in the 1979 film, Alien.

Reebok previously released a pair of these shoes to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Aliens, back in 2016. This year, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the film that started it all, Reebok will be releasing upgraded versions of these shoes on 26 April, Alien Day, Reebok has thrown in several collectables such as a bug stomping field guide, an official Alien 40th Anniversary badge, plus three unique hang tags and a dust bag. The kit will be packaged in a triangular “Space Fleet” box.  The idea behind these items, as explained by designer Chris Hill, is that you’re a fictitious member of the crew receiving a “starter kit.” He also went into further description of the level of detail he was going for with these shoes.

“I found original artwork or concept artwork that was never used. The insignias and little badges that are on the crew uniforms, hats and all that stuff.  The original Wayland logo, that’s on the inside of the shoe. I found documents from the director, Ridley Scott, talking about the original name too.”

While I don’t see myself buying these, as a fan of the franchise, it’s incredibly fun to read about the process making them. Random fun fact is that when doing his research, Hill uncovered notes by Ridley Scott where he discussed “Weylan-Yutani Corporation,” which became central to the franchise.  It wasn’t until the 1986 film Aliens that the ‘D’ was added to the name.

If you’re interested in picking up your own, they’ll be available at Reebok starting at 00:00 EST/ 21:00 PST on 25-26 April.  Until then, the link will not work and will redirect to a “Page Not Found.”
