Disney has made an entire industry off of re-telling classic fairy tales. They made a habit of doing in in their heyday, and have been returning to some of these stories in both live-action and animated form. The most recent animated re-telling came in the form of Frozen, a reinterpreted version of The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen.
Of course, there’s no way Disney was going to abandon that strategy any time soon, and on the animated front, the next film to do that will be one entitled Gigantic, which is set to hit theaters on November 21, 2018. Up until now, all we’ve really known about the film was its release date, its producer, and the writers of the film’s music (Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, who will be returning from their gig on the successful Frozen).
Now, THR is reporting that Meg LeFauve, who co-wrote the acclaimed Pixar flick Inside Out, and is set to co-write the upcoming Captain Marvel film, will be joining Nathan Greno in the director’s chair for the tentpole project. The outlet went on to state that their sources compare the move from a similar one on Frozen, wherein Jennifer Lee was promoted from screenwriter to co-director.
Given the studio’s track record as of late, this is probably nothing but good news, as LeFauve has a relatively short track record thus far, and it pretty much consists almost exclusively as winners to this point. Clearly Disney sees a knack for storytelling that can be utilized for Gigantic.
