Inumans: Iwan Rheon Talks How Maximus And Game Of Thrones’ Ramsay Are Different.

I first remember Iwan Rheon when he portrayed the meek and very socially reserved character of Simon Bellamy on the British show, Misfits. His turn as the psychotic Ramsay Bolton on HBO’s Game of Thrones was a complete 180 from his Misfits character, and is a testament to Rheon’s acting range.  Rheon is now set to be a part of Marvel’s Inhumans, playing Maximus, a powerless character intent on overthrowing his Inhuman brother, Black Bolt. Rheon recently sat down with Moviefone and talked about what it’s like to join the Marvel Universe and how Maximus is different from Ramsay Bolton:

“I think every young boy wants to be in the superhero show, so it’s lovely to join it. Even though I don’t actually have a superpower in the show, it’s cool just to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe — they make such amazing stuff and it’s great just to be a part of it.”

Rheon played a character in Misfits with the initial ability of invisibility, so the superhero realm is definitely within his acting capabilities. It will be interesting to see how he operates powerless in a superpowered world. Rheon says that producers Jeph Loeb and Scott Buck convinced him to take the role selling him on the point that it was an opportunity to do something different:

“Initially, I was a bit unsure whether I wanted to do it, because it seemed like maybe I was going to do the same thing again — which I’m not interested in at all. But [executive producers] Jeph Loeb and Scott Buck spoke to me, they said, ‘Listen, this guy is different. He’s not vicious. He’s not a psychopath. He wants to change things. He’s a revolutionary. He is a politician who has a really strong idea of how to change the world.’ I guess those were the right things to say to me.”

Rheon also said that Maximus is different from Ramsay, because he has a heart, “He is vulnerable. He has empathy for people. Ramsay doesn’t — or didn’t, I should say.” Rheon is, in my opinion, one of the more versatile actors of the last several years and now that he will be further exposed to American audiences, he is sure to be recognized as such.
