Without a doubt, one of the surprise hits of late-2014 was GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. It was a film that, despite the red Marvel logo branding its title, was initially received with skepticism. It was a property practically no one knew about, and the initial trailer seemed to confuse the uninitiated more than anything. Luckily for Marvel, and everyone involved, this attitude did not continue into the film’s release. When the movie finally hit theaters, it impressed audiences worldwide.
Drawn to the lovable characters, the film’s unique sense of humor, and its big heart, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY took off almost immediately, solidifying Marvel’s place as a studio powerhouse. In many fans’ minds, GUARDIANS proved that Marvel could find success in just about any brand, so long as they approach it the right way.
The film’s highly anticipated sequel, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 is slated for release in mid-2017, and with that in mind, the film’s shooting date is fast approaching.
In a recent series of tweets from his Twitter account, writer/director James Gunn gave fans little updates on the film’s table reading, script status, the pressures of making a film, and the post-credits sequence.
In those tweets he revealed the following:
- The post-credits sequence is scripted, and not just an after-thought
- Almost all of the script used in the table reads are the scripts they shoot
- The script they have now is the script they will be shooting in a couple weeks
- Gunn feels pressure in getting his shots in while shooting a film, but almost none when just being creative
