Jessica Jones Begins Filming In New York City

A few weeks back, Netflix released the full season of Iron Fist, the fourth pillar before the upcoming Defenders limited series, which will see Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist team up against a common enemy. While The Defenders has long since been in the can, we still have some time before it hits the streaming service. However, that hasn’t stopped Marvel Entertainment from moving forward with their schedule.

According to On Location Vacations (via MCU Exchange), production has officially begun on the second season of Jessica Jones. The outlet also states that film today will take place in New York City on Broadway and West 101st Street. MCU Exchange notes that this is the location used for the exterior of Jessica’s Alias Investigations office (a.k.a. her apartment).

As of this writing, there is little to nothing known about the plot in this season. Given that Marvel will soon be focusing their marking to the much bigger Defenders series, it makes sense. There are also no details as to what other characters we can expect in addition to the main cast. Given where we left Will Simpson, there is always a chance that he’ll return, but Marvel has a solid track record thus far of saving things up for a much later date. Will Simpson is a character that could benefit from a little bit of extra time before his return.

We do have to wonder, however, how the Punisher series will play into all this. With Jessica Jones starting production now, it could very well be on course to hit Netflix at the tail end of this year, just as the first season did in 2015. However, with Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher all in various stages of production and release, we have to wonder if Punisher is actually on course to release this year, leaving Jessica Jones with an early 2018 release date. However, if that is the case, that would be taking Daredevil’s usual early-year spot.

Or can we expect to see all of these series hit the streaming service this year? Is it possible that this year, Netflix will be home to four full Marvel seasons? We’ll have to wait and see!
