Joaquin Phoenix Is BRUTAL In Trailer For You Were Never Really Here

Amazon Studios has just released a brand new trailer for the dark thriller, You Were Never Really Here.

While the name of the film implies more of an indie drama or dramedy, the actual film couldn’t be farther from that description. As you can see in the trailer, this film seems to have more in common with something like The Punisher than an indie drama.

The filmmaking seems to be dark and hard-hitting, and the actual plot seems to be full of intrigue. Not to take away from it, but it kind of feels like the plot for Robert Rodriguez’s Machete (at least the core premise) — only played completely straight, instead of for laughs.

You Were Never Really Here premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, wehre it went on to win awards for Best Actor and Best Screenplay. We’re very interested to see what audiences think of this one.

The official synopsis for You Were Never Really Here is below:

“A traumatized veteran, unafraid of violence, tracks down missing girls for a living. When a job spins out of control, Joe’s nightmares overtake him as a conspiracy is uncovered leading to what may be his death trip or his awakening.”
