John Boyega On Pacific Rim 2

As a person who first became a fan of John Boyega in the 2011 film Attack the Block, his career has been one I have enjoyed watching grow. He truly rose to mainstream fame when he was cast as Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Boyega recently stopped by the EW Morning Live show and spoke about the upcoming film, Pacific Rim: Uprising:

It’s going to be so cool. This is a fun movie. It’s there to entertain. It’s larger than life. Just go in there looking to have a great time. Get you popcorn nice and warm. Your eyes are going to be peeled. We’ve got a spectacle and [Guillermo] Del Toro’s influence is still there. It’s going to be really, really cool.

Boyega really hypes up the fighting scenes for the sequel as something special. The sequel, is set a decade after the events of Pacific Rim. Boyega plays Jake Pentecost, the son of Idris Elba’s character from the original film.  The film’s release date was recently pushed back by a month from late February to late March. Charlie Day will reprise his role as Dr. Newton Geizler and coming in to direct is Steven S. DeKnight who also co-wrote the screenplay.

The first Pacific Rim brought us a futuristic society in which imaginative designed monsters rise from the sea, and to combat the monsters, humanity responded by building giant robots that they sit inside of and have amazing control over. The movie was a success with movie-goers and critics alike, pulling in $411 million on a $190 million-dollar budget.
