Actors are often just much fans of a franchise as us. The main difference is that they have the ability to actually work their way onto these flicks in a credible way. In 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, folks like Simon Pegg, Kevin Smith, and Daniel Craig managed to secure their place in the pantheon of Star Wars in one way or another.
Rest assured that when the next film hits, it’ll have at lest one or two other surprise cameos embedded in there somewhere. Well, you can check off one cameo. While speaking during a Japanese promotional event, Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson confirmed that Joseph Gordon-Levitt would indeed be in the film.
“My very good friend Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who was in a movie I made called Looper, he does a cameo as a voice of an alien in the film. It’s a very brief little thing, but it’s fun, and if you watch the movie, maybe you’ll be able to hear and pick out his voice in the movie.”
Like how Simon Pegg hid behind the layers of fat of Unkar Plutt, the junk dealer that Rey had the displeasure of dealing with, it sounds like Gordon-Levitt will also be hidden somewhere in plain sight. Given how little we know about the plot of the film as a whole, it’s almost impossible to know what his role could actually be.
I would absolutely love it if he ended up as one of the highly advertised porgs, the little furry bird-animal creatures that inhabit Ach-To. That being said, I fully realize that the only reason I think that is because that’s the only other alien race we really know about that this point. Rest assured, finding his voice in the film will be a lot like trying to find Waldo in a crowd. We’ll still be keeping an eye out, though.
What kind of alien creature do you think Gordon-Levitt will play? Sound off down below!
Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15, 2017.
