Judge Dredd Is Heading To TV!

Judge Dredd has had a place in fans hearts for decades. For some it’s because of the comic book, for others it’s the film starring Sylvester Stallone, or the more recent film Dredd, starring Karl Urban. That being said, the films have never really done super well. Most recently, the Karl Urban film — while succeeding both critically and with fans, it never clicked with general audiences. Since the release of that 2012 film, there’ve been talks of another film coming, but given its lackluster performance, it never really seemed like a truly attainable reality.

Despite one of the executive producers, Adi Shankar, repeatedly stated he was doing his best to get things moving. At the end of the day, the almighty dollar is king, and sadly, audiences voted with their wallets that another Dredd film was not something they’d be interested in seeing. But don’t wave goodbye to Judge Dredd just yet.

EW is now reporting that IM Global and U.K. game developer and publisher are teaming up to create a live-action Judge Dredd TV show. That’s right. While the big screen may not be in the cards for now, a small screen adaptation may very well be. The show is called Judge Dredd: Mega City One, and it be an ensemble drama that follows a team of Judges in addition to Dredd.

Below is an official poster for the project:

As of right now, the project is in early developments, so there are no stars or network attached to the project just yet. However, to those fans who have patiently been awaiting another film, hopefully this will be enough to whet your appetite. In this golden age of television, TV doesn’t necessarily mean “lesser,” and in fact may be a much better fit for longform, ensemble pieces.
