Jumanji 2 Trailer #2: You Don’t Just Play Jumanji, Jumanji Plays You

Some time ago, we learned that Dwayne Johnson would be involved in a sequel to the 90s nostalgia bomb that is Jumanji. While the film itself is only pretty good, it definitely holds a very special place in a lot of hearts. Because of that, there are a lot of protective viewers out there who refused to give this new film a shot.

Luckily, this latest interpretation, which is called Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, bears very little resemblance to its 1990s counterpart, apart from the mythology behind the film (which, I suppose, could be considered a negative to some fans). While it’s easy to roll one’s eyes at the fact that this film switches the core premise from a board game to a video game, and that it essentially turns the concept on its head, it still has a lot of potential. Plus, with a great cast that boasts Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black, there’s bound to be some laughs along the way.

Dwayne Johnson took to his own YouTube account earlier today to share yet another trailer for the upcoming film. The trailer itself is pretty solid, though if you’re expecting it to have different beats from the first one, you’d be wrong. Yes, there’s a decent amount of new footage, but it looks like the dynamic they were selling in the first one is the main stuff they’ll continue to push until the film’s release. The only different piece of information we have has to do with their weaknesses (which apparently have the potential to literally explode the characters), and the fact that they only have three lives to spend in this adventure.

The synopsis for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is below:

“In a brand new adventure Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, the tables are turned as four teenagers in detention are sucked into the world of Jumanji. When they discover an old video game console with a game they’ve never heard of, they are immediately thrust into the game’s jungle setting, into the bodies of their avatars, played by Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan. What they discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji – Jumanji plays you. They’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, or they’ll be stuck in the game forever…”

Overall, this is another lighthearted trailer for what looks like can be a fun ride in the theaters. It doesn’t look like it’ll be shooting for film of the year or anything, but it could be a nice little escape from the woes of everyday life. What do you think of the trailer? Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle hits theaters on December 20, 2017.
