There are a great number of movies that deserve to be remade or sequelized. I know, it’s not a popular thing to say in this day and age, where it feels like we’re getting one or the other every couple weeks, but the fact is that Hollywood has always been into the safe bet. They’d rather a lot of money into adapting material than create something wholly original. It’s not because they’re un-creative — on the contrary, Hollywood is home to some of the world’s most creative minds. The problem is with us, the audience, who refuse to see these original films.

With that in mind, it’s no surprise that a twenty-year-old film like Jumanji is set to get a sequel. As I’ve said in the past, it’s not a film that I would’ve thought ever warranted one, but at the end of the day, there is a great deal of potential surrounding the concept of a malicious board game. What direction will this film take the story? It’s difficult to say, but with the likes of Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black on board, you could do with much worse talent.

Johnson and Hart are two of the hardest working men in Hollywood these days, Jack Black is coming off the surprisingly strong kids movie Goosebumps, which hit theaters last year, and Gillan is currently involved with the Marvel franchise as Nebula. All are producing quality content, and as a result, I’m optimistic that what we’ll get something worthwhile here.

The film itself is currently in production, and Hart has now taken to Instagram to share a cast photo of the four main actors.

Check it out:

So what does this photo say about the film? Well, there isn’t an awful lot to go off of, but it’s very clear from the get-go that it’s set to be a very different movie from the original film. The first obvious difference lies within the cast itself, which consists solely of adult leads, where as the film had two young leads and two adults — but we knew that before this photo hit. In addition, while the first film brought jungle elements to a normal house in a normal town, this film seems to be set entirely in a jungle setting.

So what does this mean for the story? That’s the ten thousand dollar question. Are these four roaming the jungle in search of this mysterious board game, or is it something different? Perhaps these four are actually in the board game itself, and have to fight their way out? That’s obviously all speculation, but it would be an interesting directionto take things, and would go a long way to differentiate itself from the film from the 1990s without taking away from the story that one told.

What do about you? What do you think of this first cast photo, and what do youy think it says about the upcoming Jumanji sequel? Let us know in the comments down below!
