Kingsman 2: Channing Tatum & Taron Egerton Look Decidedly Badass In New Photos

Kingsman: The Secret Service was quite the pleasant surprise when it came out. Given the man behind the helm — Matthew Vaughn — I had confidence that film would be paassable, but based on what I’d seen in the trailers prior to its release, it looked like something I could pass on. I’m so happy I didn’t, as Kingsman ended up being my favorite film of that year, and proof that the spy genre could continually find ways to reinvent itself.

The result was an over-the-top, hilariously violent, and overtly badass flick that saw the emergence of a brand new star in Taron Egerton. It even managed to make romantic comedy veteran Colin Firth into an unparalleled action hero, if you can believe it. Given the fantastic word of mouth, the film stuck around in theaters for quite some time, resulting in a solid performance that warranted a sequel.

For the next entry, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, the British spies are going stateside, and among the many new faces we’ll be seeing is none other than actor Channing Tatum, who will be playing an American spy in a similar agency as Kingsman — an organization called Statesman.

As you can see in the new photos from Empire, Tatum is sporting an all-American look, complete with a jean jacket and cowboy hat. Even better, Tatum’s character has the amazing codename, Agent Tequila.

“They’re multi-billionaires with huge jets, and their base is a giant distillery in Kentucky. We’ve got all this fun Americana and we’re combining it with the Englishness.”

Whereasthe first Kingsman sort of took some of the big British stereotypes and embraced them, this new film seems to be doing the same with America, which is something we can get behind. But Agent Tequila won’t be alone. Joining him will be Ginger, the tech guru (Halle Berry), Agent Champagne (or Champ), their leader (Jeff Bridges), and Agent Jack, played by Pedro Pascal.

As for Eggsy, don’t think he’s been thrown to the wayside.

“We’ve got a huge arc for Eggsy,” Vaughn told the outlet. “Where does he go? What does he have to learn? And now he’s got a huge moral dilemma the audience will totally relate to.”

We can’t wait to see what that arc is. However, perhaps what we’re looking forward to most are the aforementioned over-the-top action set pieces. One especially memorable one involved a massacre at a church. is this something they could ever top?

“There’s an opportunity with Kingsman 2 to make it bigger and bolder and funnier and crazier. The church sequence, everyone wants something like that. But we’ve got action sequences which are just as original but different.”

We couldn’t be more thrilled.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle hits theaters on September 29, 2017.
