LBCC 2016 Wrap Up: Con Man The Game

This past weekend at Long Beach Comic Con I knew that Con Man was going to have a panel featuring Nathan Fillion, PJ Haarsma and Nolan North, but I did not expect the overwhelming support for the show as well as their brand new app “Con Man: The Game”. Alan Tudyk could not be in attendance since he was busy this past weekend getting married (congratulations sir!). But the crew on hand did one hell of a job entertaining the crowd. This was one of the few panels this weekend that had a line zig zaging out the door and into the parking lot, although some would argue that a good amount of folks were actually there to save their seat for the Firefly panel since the room was not going to be cleared in between panels.

A trailer for the app was shown and the three gentlemen spent the rest of the time talking about how the game was developed, some of the highlights and some of the updates that are coming soon. They talked about how the game has had overwhelming positive response and that they are working hard to market the game and get more people to download it and spend some money on it so they can support more updates/upgrades. In my years of attending lots of different panels this was by far one of the most entertaining panels I have ever attended, this was largely thanks to Nathan Fillion being very funny.

Besides the panel Con Man: The Game was also featured on the back of the program and they had a good size booth right in the front of the show floor where they had all types of goodies. Some of my favorites were they Con Man and Spectrum pins, Shock A Con lanyards, Spectrum portable chargers and prototypes of the broken baby doll and the Ray Ray action figure (if you’ve seen the show you know what I am talking about). Not only that but they had someone cosplaying as none other than Nudy Judy terrorizing the con floor. As my buddy Jace and I met different people though out the weekend we always made sure to inform folks about the game in case they hadn’t heard of it as we are huge supporters of the show as well as the game.

What is “Con Man: The Game” you say?

It’s an app which is available for free in both Google Play and ITunes. It gives you the opportunity to build your own convention with all its glory and headaches. Buy booths and food stands to make money and keep your guests happy. But along with that you need to build the appropriate number of bathrooms and trash cans to accommodate your guests. You have staff available to you to clean bathrooms and to take out the trash when necessary, as well as security to keep Nudy Judy at bay and to escort VIP’s when they arrive. The curveball is that every now and then you have hostile aliens that show up to destroy your Con. Luckily for you, you have a number of Superfans or Cosplayers that are ready to defend your show. It obviously has a lot of references to the show and as they continue to update it more will be added. Being a fan of comic book conventions I have found this app to be a lot of fun. You have the option to buy comic books (which you can convert to in game money) but I have found that as long as you keep growing your con it’s not a necessity, which is cool because there are too many games out there which will try and limit you right and left until you pull out real cash. If you’re a comic book convention fan, comic book fan, or just a con man fan I highly recommend this game. It will keep you occupied until the release of season 2 of Con Man! Check it out and let us know what you think!
