Legendary Comics to Release Six-Part Prequel Comics For Pacific Rim Uprising

Time to watch those Jaegers and Kaiju epic battles.

In anticipation of next year’s release of Pacific Rim Uprising starring John Boyega, Legendary Comics will be releasing a six-part comic book series tied in as the prequel story to this universe.

The series will explore a new criminal underworld born in the age of monsters and mechs.

Here’s the synopsis:

Santa Monica, 2034. In a city that was once the jewel of the West Coast, a new world has emerged: one rising up from the ashes of giant robots and giant monsters. In this futuristic aftermath, we will meet a new generation of survivors, including Jake Pentecost, son of Stacker Pentecost, who is searching for answers behind the death of his legendary father–Griffin, a Jaeger pilot who has gone from defending the world to piloting an illegal Jaeger enforcer for a mob boss and the Mech Czar, a techno-criminal overlord who rules the underworld with a steel fist. Set against a neo-noir backdrop of street gangs, Kaiju worshippers and Jaeger scrapyards–a mysterious but familiar figure arrives with a dangerous agenda.

The first issue will be on sale both in print and digital on January 17. It will be 32 pages in length and retail for $3.99. The writer is Cavan Scott and the artist is Rich Elson.

Pacific Rim Uprising also stars Scott Eastwood, Adria Arjona, Tian Jing with returning cast members Rinko Kikuchi and Charlie Day. The film will be in theaters on March 23.
