Last season of Legends of Tomorrow ended things a bit worse for wear. Yes, the Legends managed to successfully depower the Spear of Destiny and take down the Legion of Doom, but there were some costs. The main one made itself evident when they’re captured in a time storm and land in an alternate 2017 in Los Angeles. This version of the present, it seems, has dinosaurs running amok — something that obviously shouldn’t be the case.

Needless to say, the Legends have their work cut out for them in this coming season. The new promo from The CW admittedly doesn’t really show much in the way of conflict or actual story, but it does hint at some “greater evil” coming. As one would expect from an initial teaser, this one shows off more of the tone and imagery than actual plot. Plus, with the series still a ways away from its October 10 premiere, there’s more than enough time to get a promo that actually gives us some information.

The official synopsis for Legends of Tomorrow Season 3 is below:

“The Legends continue their new mission to protect the timeline from temporal aberrations – unusual changes to history that spawn potentially catastrophic consequences. When Nate, the grandson of J.S.A. member Commander Steel, unexpectedly finds himself with powers, he must overcome his own insecurities and find the hero within himself. Ultimately, the Legends will clash with foes both past and present, to save the world from a mysterious new threat.”

All in all, if you like what Legends of Tomorrow has had to offer in previous seasons (and despite its flaws, it does offer a good amount of time-traveling fun), then it looks like there’s more in store from where that came from. That being said, unlike last season, we wouldn’t be surprised if they borrowed less from existing DC lore, and we’re doubtful the Legion of Doom will pop up again in a big way this time around.
