Logan Director Says The Batman Is In Good Hands With Matt Reeves

James Mangold, with the success of Logan, has been thrust to the highest realm of comic adapted movie greatness. Let’s take a look at a few stats: ComicBook.com gives it a 88.49 composite rating (making it their #2 movie of all time behind The Dark Knight), Rotten Tomatoes has it at a 92%, and Metacritic gives it a 77 — which is considered favorable.

It is unknown if he will ever make another superhero movie but, with the uncertainty of The Batman, some are wondering if he would be the best man for the job instead of the current director Matt Reeves. Or better yet, if Mangold would do a Dark Knight Returns movie, in line with Christoper Nolan’s masterpieces. Mangold was quick to squash this idea when he replied to a fan on twitter.

Take this with a grain of salt, as it is rare in Hollywood for directors to criticize other directors, but these two do seem to be friends, or at least Mangold likes Reeves’ work in his other films. At this point, it seems Mangold believes that Reeves can turn The Batman around, and with Geoff Johns at the helm, and a clear headed Ben Affleck — I don’t see why not. However, maybe we should get through Wonder Woman and Justice League first.

Logan is still going strong, and globally it could reach untold numbers. I hope that Reynolds is smart enough to grab Mangold for X-Force, and can give up a little ego to make it happen, but we shall see. Outside of Marvel, put this guy on any future DC project and they just might turn things around.

Logan takes place in the year 2024, where mutant births have become extremely rare. The defenders of mutant kind, the X-Men, are long gone, and the only remains of them are an old and struggling Charles Xavier and a weary Logan. Logan’s vaunted healing factor has slowed, and at times doesn’t seem to work at all. When a young mutant needs his help, Logan has to unsheathe his claws once more. His job isn’t over yet.”

Logan stars Hugh Jackman as Logan, Boyd Holbrook as Donald Pierce, Patrick Stewart as Professor-X, Dafne Keen as X-23, and Stephen Merchant as Caliban.
