LOGAN: New Photo Fuels Rumors An APOCALYPSE Character Will Show Up In Wolverine Movie

In X-Men: Apocalypse, we spent a brief amount of time with the character Caliban. In the Bryan Singer film, he was played by Tomas Lemarquis. His main role in the overall story was that he had the ability to identify those that possess the X-Gene, he’s the one who helped Nightcrawler find his way to the Xavier school, and his assistant Psylocke was poached away by Apocalypse.

If he didn’t make much of an impact on you in X-Men: Apocalypse, you wouldn’t be alone. But there are new rumors that Caliban is going to appear in Logan, and judging by the actor that director James Mangold has hired to play him, he’s likely to leave a much bigger impression this time around. What I’m about to share with you is only a rumor at this stage, but it seems like a pretty safe bet.

Logan director Mangold has tweeted an image that looks an awful lot like Caliban. Only he isn’t being played by Lemarquis, but rather Stephen Merchant. For those unaware, the actor is best known for comedy series like Hello Ladies and Life Is Short. As a writer, his career has been far more prolific, as he co-created the BBC smash hit The Office with Ricky Gervais and has continued to collaborate with the British comedian to great effect.

Take a gander at this image from Logan that reveals how Merchant will look in the third solo Wolverine movie:

The original rumor states that Caliban may be vital to Charles Xavier’s (Patrick Stewart) subplot, as he would help the weakened and distressed professor reconnect with Logan. So if this rumor is true, it would appear that Caliban’s role in the cinematic X-Universe is to be an intermediary that helps identify and connect mutants together.

Remember, this is all in the realm of Rumor & Speculation for now.

Logan comes out on March 3.
