Tomorrow night on Lucha Underground, which you can see on the El Rey Network, the first round of the Cueto Cup begins. The winner will receive a title shot against the Lucha Underground Champion at Utima Lucha Tres. Here’s a description from El Rey about the tournament.

In this week’s all new episode of “Lucha Underground” Johnny Mundo and Rey Mysterio begin their training to take on the Cueto Cup. Who will make it through and take the championship? Plus, Cage pays a visit to City Councilman Lawrence Delgado. The first round of the Cueto Cup begins this Wednesday, June 14th at 8:00PM ET. There are a couple first round match ups which are intriguing. The most intriguing for me is Sexy Star vs PJ Black, which should be a great match, playing off the recent drama she’s had to endure thanks to the Worldwide Underground. PJ Black, who went by Justin Gabriel in the WWE, has been on a roll since joining Lucha Underground. He’s an underrated talented that doesn’t get his due in the ring.
Sexy Star has impressed me. I wasn’t familiar with her work before Lucha Underground but she will surprise you. One critique people have of the show, without watching it of course, is the fact that men routinely fight women in regular matches. These days in pro wrestling, you will not see that happen. Even with a mixed tag team match, you have the men tag out of the match if the women tag themselves in. Not so with Lucha Underground. Everyone is a competitor. Everyone fights for the same championships. What Sexy Star brings to the table is the physical vulnerability you would expect when a woman her size faces off against guys double her size who are all muscle. Yet her heart as a competitor wins you over, which is why she was the first woman to hold the Lucha Underground Championship.
There are a number of great matches to look forward to tomorrow night on Lucha Underground. As always, LRM will be covering the show after it airs.
