Sweet Christmas. It’s taken some time, but it looks like the Marvel Netflix shows are facing a production schedule that rivals the Marvel Cinematic Universe properties. This year, we’ve already seen the release of Iron Fist, and we still have The Defenders and The Punisher set to hit Netflix later this year.

But, in true studio form, they are already hard at work at other shows for next year.  A few months back, Jessica Jones started its own production for Season 2 and is, by all accounts, still waist-deep in production. However, that’s not the only big superhero hitting Netflix next year.

According to OLV, Luke Cage Season 2 has officially begun production as of today. The going forward of a second season for the show is no surprise. If you’ll recall, the release of the show last year resulted in Netflix moving a snail’s pace in its weekend of release, not allowing poor slops like me a chance to get a peek until days after. The second season was announced shortly thereafter.

The first season was a stylistic “hip-hop western” that saw the titular Luke Cage (a.k.a. Power Man) as a reluctant hero who just wants to go through life completely under the radar. The first season saw him go head to head with the likes of crime lords Copperhead and Diamondback, in a clash that eventually saw him sent to jail.

Since Luke Cage will be showing up in The Defenders, Season 2 will likely not be picking up from that point on, but there is one thread that will need to be addressed: his public identity. Luke Cage seems to stand alone in that pretty much everyone in Harlem knows his face and his abilities. As such, his days of flying under the radar are long gone, and we look forward to seeing how the show will deal with that aspect.
