Love him or hate him, M. Night Shyamalan continues to be a unique voice in cinema. Just a few years back, he seemed to be the laughingstock of the industry, but with his one-two punch of The Visit and Split, he seemed to be on the right track to a return. Sadly, Glass wasn’t received nearly as well, but despite its flaws, I maintain it was a film only he could have made, and am still very interested to see what comes next.

Late last week, Shyamalan himself recently took to Twitter to share some new details regarding his new project. He did not give any specific details, but it sounds like a new original idea that he just finished a draft of. Here’s what he said.

“Finished first draft of new spec. Essentially just the outline in screenplay format. Already deep into draft two. Immediately saw a 20 page section that wasn’t right. Mushy, non-escalating. Realized I gave the characters too much information to early. They are now in the dark!”

He then share a photo of the binder in which he put the script.

Now, it’s worth highlighting that this is a spec script. This means it’s being written out of pure passion and that it has no real guarantee of being made. Once the screenplay is finished, and it meets Shyamalan’s personal standards, he’ll likely start pitching it around, and if another studio likes it, then it’ll get made. 

Regardless, it’s always exciting to see creatives share their creative progress, and I’m looking forward to seeing a new original project from one of the more unique mainstream voices in cinema. What do you think of the comments from Shyamalan? Let us know your thoughts down below!
