MACGYVER is coming back, folks. And you won’t be able to avoid him. According to Variety, not only is CBS preparing to relaunch a MACGYVER TV series, but now Lionsgate is prepping a movie.
While the CBS series has been a known entity for some time, with a pilot officially being ordered by the network- which would cover MacGyver’s early years- the news of a major motion picture is fresh off the presses. According to Lionsgate CEO Jon Leitheimer, original series creator Lee David Zlotoff and FAST & FURIOUS producer Neal Moritz will be producing a MACGYVER film for the studio.
The original series, which ran from 1985 to 1992, followed a very crafty agent for the Phoenix Foundation who’s able to create innovative solutions using whatever he can find in order to get himself and others out of jams. The series developed a strong following, and the character- and his abilities- have become part of the pop culture lexicon. The verb to “MacGyver” something has a meaning even for people who never saw the show.
