Marvel/Netflix Series ‘Iron Fist’ in Trouble?

With the recent addition of “Ant-Man and The Wasp” to Marvel’s film lineup for the next several years, and the rumors of “Inhumans” dropping from the slate (which is something that, while controversial, Bleeding Cool is still standing behind), it looks like the Marvel schedule is a lot more malleable than one would have expected. Sure, we knew that if “Ant-Man” bombed that his appearance in the Avengers movies would likely be modified, but barring those kinds of unexpected things, one wouldn’t expect them to shuffle things around so much.

Well, it turns out that kind of thing may not be restricted to Marvel Studios. Despite the great plans Marvel Television has for their Netflix series, it looks like one of them may not make it to the small screen at all. That series is “Iron Fist.”

For those unfamiliar, Marvel and Netflix are currently in the middle of a partnership that began with “Daredevil” earlier this year, and is set to continue with “Jessica Jones” later this year. The plan is then move on to a “Luke Cage” series, an “Iron Fist” series, and round everything off with a “Defenders” miniseries, which will bring all these supers together (Avengers-style).

It turns out that “Iron Fist” may ultimately be a victim of Marvel Studios interference, Bleeding Cool reports. According to the outlet, Marvel Studios still has to sign off on a bunch of stuff regarding this character, and that they could potentially note the series to death. This rumor from Bleeding Cool seems to reliant on the alleged bad blood between Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige and Marvel Entertainment CEO Isaac Perlmutter, so we’ll see what happens with that.

This does coincide with things we’ve heard about “Iron Fist” being in trouble. Iron Fist as a character deals with a lot of weird stuff, like sorcery and mysticism–the kinds of things that may be difficult to bring to television in a believable way. TV budgets have always been a hindrance, and as shows become bigger and riskier, that will not change. Even more difficult is that the Netflix series really seem to be aiming for that dark, realistic edge that’s lacking in the Marvel movies. It’s hard to aim for realistic if you can’t get the visuals effects to mesh well with the practical setting.

All that aside, is an “Iron Fist” series out of the question? Not by any stretch of the imagination. There’s just a lot of obstacles to overcome.

What do you think? Is “Iron Fist” in trouble, or is this just another case of much ado about nothing? Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below!
