Marvel Releases New Synopses For Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, and Avengers: Infinity War

The next three Marvel Studios movies, made without any deal or collaboration with Sony Pictures, are Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, and Avengers: Infinity War. With Black Panther and Infinity War, we officially know precious little about the story-lines, aside from the knowledge we have about characters like Black Panther and Thanos from the comics, and what little has been established about them both in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thus far. Even when it comes to Thor: Ragnarok, for which we do have a trailer, there are many unknowns in the basic plot. Thor loses Mjolnir and Asgard falls, but how does the ending of Thor: The Dark World with Loki on the thrown play into Hela’s rise?

License! Global Magazine has revealed new synopses for Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, and Infinity War. Though none of them reveal any startling new information, they deliver a satisfying confirmation of many of our assumptions in a way that teases enough new information for excitement to continue to mount.

First, the new synopsis for Thor Ragnarok, which sees release November 3, 2017.

Thor’s world is about to explode in Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok. His devious brother, Loki, has taken over Asgard, the powerful Hela has emerged to steal the throne for herself and Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe. To escape captivity and save his home from imminent destruction, Thor must first win a deadly alien contest by defeating his former ally and fellow Avenger… The Incredible Hulk!

We’ve gleaned most of this get most of this from the trailer and other outlets already. The main take-away is confirmation that Hela steals the throne from Loki; she’s not handed it in any sort of nefarious villain trade or compromise. We now know she’s Loki’s enemy too, even if he turns out to be an unwilling subservient to her power for a portion of the film.

Next, Black Panther, out February 16, 2018:

After the events of Captain America: Civil War, King T’Challa returns home to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country’s new leader. However, T’Challa soon finds that he is challenged for the throne from factions within his own country. When two foes conspire to destroy Wakanda, the hero known as Black Panther must team up with C.I.A. agent Everett K. Ross and members of the Dora Milaje, Wakandan special forces, to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war.

We knew Black Panther was going to be about a power struggle in Wakanda that would challenge T’Challa as well as many of the players including Everett K. Ross, but talk of the Wakandan special forces and danger of a World War are tantalizing details.

Finally, the big, bad Avengers: Infinity War synopsis, coming out May 4, 2018:

“As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.”

Again, not much we didn’t already assume assume, but it’s exciting to see Marvel finally put Thanos’ plot into words and remind us that everything since the Tesseract has been leading up to this.
