When Jason Bourne came out over the summer and did some respectable box office numbers, it naturally got people asking: Will Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass continue to make more Bourne movies? After all, they had basically sworn off making anymore after The Bourne Ultimatum came out in 2007. Then we exclusively reported in in 2014 that the duo had reconsidered and would, indeed, come back for another go-around.
So now that the fourth Jason Bourne movie has come and gone, where does that leave us? Will Jeremy Renner's The Bourne Legacy films continue? Is Damon, who also works as a producer on the series, working on another proper installment? During a Producer's Roundtable held by The Hollywood Reporter, the topic came up, and here's what Damon said about whether or not he was working on something new in the world of Bourne.
"Not right now. Those things are a massive undertaking. We started shooting that in September and finished in March. It's just big, with a massive second unit."
It's an intriguing answer, because it means he's not ruling it out. The busy actor-producer just sounds like there isn't a spot for another Jason Bourne on his current calendar, but he'd ultimately be up for another when he's ready to make that sort of commitment. Damon has also commented before that he'd only make more of these films if Greengrass is directing, so that's another factor.
Still, it sounds like fans of the Jason Bourne character can take solace in the fact that Damon sounds open to more films in the series. As for the folks who want to see more of Renner's Aaron Cross and the story that began in The Bourne Legacy? There are sadly no updates on that front at the moment.
