How is it we've gotten this far into the superhero movie craze without actor Matt Damon joining in on the fun? The closest Damon has gotten is taking up the role of Jason Bourne in the BOURNE series, which, let's be honest, isn't incredibly far from a superhero in how badass he is. But given the actor's age, what is the probability that we'll see him actually don the capes and tights of a DC or Marvel superhero this late in the game?
At the premiere of JASON BOURNE, the latest in the BOURNE franchise, he spoke to that question:
“I’d consider anything with the right director, but I can’t imagine there are any superheroes left, I think they’re all taken at this moment.
If [Ben Affleck] was directing me, I’d jump on it in a New York minute. I’d love to work with Ben."
But of course, when working on a Ben Affleck film, there is one minor issue:
“The problem with Ben is every time he directs a movie, he gives himself the best role in it, so until he’s willing to give up the best role to one of his friends, we’re not going to get on with it.”
While Damon is obviously joking in his comment, there is definitely a kernel of truth there. Even in a role where the character is of Hispanic origin, Affleck was more than willing to fill the role (ARGO). That being said, were Affleck to hire Damon, given his attachment to DC as Batman, chances are it would be in the DC universe. As such, Affleck is already playing Batman, so there are still plenty of interesting roles Damon could play, namely one version of the Green Lantern, which has been endlessly speculated on. But will Damon be able to keep getting in shape for the role if it were to get offered?
“Everything is tougher at 45, just getting into shape is a much more difficult proposition. I started these when I was 29, it was so much easier.”
