The next solo film for Warner Bros. Pictures to be released will be Aquaman in 2018. The film already stars Jason Mamoa as Arthur Curry aka Aquaman, Nicole Kidman as his mother Atlanna, William Defoe as Vulko, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Orm aka Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta. The cast would seem complete, but we now have reports from Warner Bros. Pictures via Deadline that there is still yet another name to add to that list.
Michael Beach, who recently appeared in Lionsgate’s Patriot Day, CW’s The 100 and Fox’s series Pitch, is now confirmed for Aquaman. According to Warner Bros. Pictures, Beach will be a character named Jesse Kane, and is part of a group of high-seas hijackers who then has a “fateful” interaction with Mamoa’s Aquaman. But the speculation is that Beach’s character is in fact the father of one of the other villain’s of the film Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta.
In DC Comics, Aquaman and Black Manta became bitter enemies after Manta’s father kills Arthur Curry’s father as he was trying to steal Aquaman’s blood. Aquaman, seeking revenge, goes after Manta and his father and accidentally kills him, obviously creating bad blood on both sides. This could potentially be either a flashback or an early scene in the film that sets up Black Manta as the antagonist of the film.
Abdul-Mateen II had posted this photo with Beach last month on his Twitter account in Austraila, where Aquaman is being filmed.

When asked if he was playing the the villains father, this was Beach’s response on his Twitter page.
Yes or No … correct! https://t.co/khOOAPjSMa

If in fact he is Black Manta’s father, it would seem that James Wan’s Aquaman has all of the key
characters that are necessary for Arthur Curry’s story. I look look forward to seeing a trailer for
the film, maybe at San Diego Comic Con, although it is still early. What do you want to see out of the Aquaman film?
