When it was announced that Ridley Scott’s Prometheus would contain the “same DNA” as the original Alien classic, fans went nuts. Speculation immediately began as to how it would connect. Despite the backpedaling from Scott, who stated the connections would be minute, fans seemed to take any connection to mean a full connection.
Needless to say, when Prometheus finally hit theaters a few years back, there were a good number of fans who were disappointed. There were many aspects of Prometheus that seemed like they would connect, but when the whole scenario played out, it fell short of coming together completely. In addition to some other story issues with film, this resulted in an experience that was less than ideal for many (though I maintain that Prometheus was actually a pretty solid flick).
With his next film, Alien: Covenant, Scott seems like he’ll be making amends to these expectations, finally connecting Prometheus to the original film as initially expected. If fans were certain enough this would be the case, in celebration of Ridley Scott’s 79th birthday, Fox has released a photo from the set of the film, and in it, they reveal a familiar and iconic set piece that Alien fans will recognize.
Of course, while the imagery is quite familiar, there is no way of knowing if this particular Space Jockey is a new one, or if it’s one that we’ve seen in the past. At the end of the day, it’s always nice to see these consistent set pieces, as it gives the series as a whole a real connective tissue that helps add to the tangibility of the world.
