New ‘Indiana Jones’ Flick Coming in Late 2018?

Hang onto your hats, Indy fans, because it looks like there may be a new “Indiana Jones” flick on its way!

According to a rumor from Ain’t It Cool News, Lucasfilmhas set an internal date for a brand new Indy picture in Q4 of 2018. They weren’t able to get any confirmation around this rumor, but it’s an exciting possibility nonetheless.

Ever since Disney acquired Lucasfilm back in late 2012, one of the big franchises fans were excited about seeing—apart from Star Wars, of course—was “Indiana Jones.” Despite the fact that “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” is sitting at a “fresh” rating of 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, many fans agreed that the fourth entry in the series was a sour note to go out on.

Rumors have also been flying around about the potential direction “Indiana Jones” could go in. Would Harrison Ford return as the titular character, or would they move on to a new lead Ã  la James Bond? One particularly strong rumor even pegged Chris Pratt as the potential frontrunner to pick up the mantle as Indy, but Pratt has gone on to deny that in a recent GQ interview.

“I just didn’t bring it up and [Steven Spielberg] didn’t bring it up. So I don’t know.”

Of course, all this was before “Jurassic World”s mammoth success at the box office. After seeing Pratt lead the biggest weekend opening of all time, it’d be surprising if the bigwigs over at Lucasfilm weren’t at least mulling over the idea of hiring Pratt to rejuvenate their franchise. If nothing else, “Jurassic World” proves that audiences are once again hungry for fun non-superhero adventure flicks again.

Obviously, there’s no word yet on who will be writing or directing the potential “Indiana Jones” movie. Of course, Spielberg is likely the leading contender to take the helm, but after fizzling out with “Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull,” is it time to let someone else take the lead? It worked out pretty well with “Jurassic World,” so that could be a great direction to go.

But as we mentioned, all this is merely rumor and speculation. Would any of you like to see a new “Indiana Jones” movie? Has the franchise already run its course? And if we do get a new one, who would you like to see as Indy, and who would you like to write and direct it?
