Earlier this week, it was revealed via an EW set photo that David Tennant’s Kilgrave would be returning to the world of Jessica Jones in Season 2. This was a little bit shocking, mostly because in the final episode of the Season 1, Kilgrave had his neck snapped, leaving very little room for him to actually survive. So how would the filmmakers manage to have the baddie return without compromising the integrity of his death?

There were a couple different possibilities we contemplated. The first was that he would only come back via flashbacks, and the second was that he had somehow survived, perhaps implanting a false memory in Jessica’s head that she had killed him. Needless to say the former possibility is one we were rooting for. However, based on a couple of new set photos that have emerged, there may be a third possibility.

Check them out below:

While it’s not 100 percent clear, these photos seem to imply that Kilgrave — while dead — still manages to occupy the heads of our leads. In this case, we see him whispering in Jessica’s ear, yelling at Malcolm (former drug addict-turned-secretary for Jessica’s detective business), and fanning the flames during a conversation between the two.

While it’s possible that this means that Kilgrave is actually back, we’d still like to think that this implies a more psychological side to things. Although he’s dead, his abilities may allow him to live on in those he’s affected. I’m not entirely sure how this approach would work, but I think the approach is vastly more interesting than any of the suggestions I posited.
