New Star Wars: The Last Jedi Synopsis Hints At A Darker Rey

While Star Wars: The Force Awakens was still pretty black and white in terms of its overall approach, it did have some real teases at the ambiguous. Rather than being someone who fought off the darkness, Kylo Ren was someone who actively fought to suppress his moral side.

This brought up the question of Rey. Is she actually the pillar of light that she seems to be in that film, or does a darker future await her? While the latest Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailers do seem to hint at a darker Rey, this latest international synopsis (via That Hashtag Show) seems to drive that point home.

“The Light, the Darkness. Rey and Kylo Ren – two people who seem to move between the two. A new shocking development is hinted to await them in Star Wars: The Last Jedi…. What awaits Rey and Kylo Ren is the question of ‘The Light or the Darkness?’ as together they are tossed and moved by the powerful Force. Rey who awakens the Force in the previous film, carries a sense of being lost and unsure. Will she be taken away by the Darkness?”

There’s been plenty of speculation since The Force Awakens came out, and some go so far as to think that Rey’s character and Kylo Ren’s character will virtually switch side in terms of Light and Dark. However, another aspect that’s been teased has been the idea of the Gray Jedi.

For a long time, this franchise has wallowed in all Light and all Dark, but in today’s world, that kind of thinking is boring. Is it possible to have Jedi (or people) who are a mix of both — kind of like how real people are? We’ll have to wait and see.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15, 2017.
