A couple weeks back, it was revealed that Warner Bros. wanted to utilize Martin Scorsese’s potential producer role in the upcoming Joker origin film to cast Oscar-winning Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role. Leo as the Joker sounded promising enough, but when all said and done, DiCaprio usually isn’t one for franchise films, and with Scorsese still not locked down, who knows if it’ll ever be a reality.

Surprisingly enough, there is one other somewhat comic book-related idea he may be interested in: Stan Lee. Yeah, it’s not exactly a comic book-type property, but we already know that there’s at least one Stan Lee film in the works from Fox, and the story’s definitely one worth telling.

Speaking at HASCON, Lee stated that he’d already had conversations with DiCaprio, and that the actor had expressed interest in playing him in a film.

“Believe it or not, I’ve already discussed it with Leonardo DiCaprio. He’s a neighbor of mine and we were talking one day some months ago, and he said, ‘Boy it’d be fun to do your story on the screen.’ So I said, ‘Well, I’ll audition you.’ Gotta make sure the guy can do it. He has all the walls covered with big Marvel posters and everything. He’s got very good taste.”

As mentioned above, there is a movie in the works from Fox, though it’s not your standard biopic. Rather than be a straightforward adaptation of Lee’s life and work in comics, it’s set to be more in the vein of Kingsman. So, if that film every comes out, expect a lot of action, explosions, and hyperreal hijinks.

Admittedly, this is not the sort of adaptation I think DiCaprio would take part in. And even in Lee’s comments, it sounds more like he was being general about telling Lee’s story. Without the specifics being pinned down, it’s hard to get excited about this in any meaningful way since we have no idea if DiCaprio was even aware there was a film in the works.

That being said, with the life rights belonging to Fox, it sounds like that may be the ONLY adaptation, and if DiCaprio is interested, I think most fans would be into seeing what he has to offer.

What do you think? Would Leonardo DiCaprio make a good Stan Lee? Let us know down below!

A proper biobic would be good. Even though would probably touch in some wounds.

well like 4 years ago there was that rumor that Leo wanted to do a Nolan Bushnell bio pic…… so yeah it does sound like he wants to do something on the fringe of pop culture……. and considering the rumors by Alan Moore, it could go dark, but I don’t know if Lee is comfortable with a lot of those rumors really out there….. I would be curious if they would want to handle when Lee bails on Marvel during the bankruptcy? Wait wait wait, no I got the key character arch, when he writes Silver Surfer with Moebius this was at the point when people were calling out Lee on his Bullshit with Jack Kirby and how he was a hack.
