Pacific Rim 2: John Boyega On His Relationship With Scott Eastwood’s Character

Pacific Rim Uprising follows Jake Pentecost (John Boyega), an estranged son of Idris Elba’s character from the first film, who has turned to stealing as his life’s work. As described by EW, some of the goods he deals in are Jaeger (giant robot) parts, that poor coastal folk build to defend themselves from the monsters.

One thing leads to another, and he finds himself in the official Jaeger program, which reunites him with an old friend, Lambert, played by Scott Eastwood. The two were best friends before Jake turned to his life of crime, and speaking with EW, Boyega discussed their relationship, and their need to hash out an age-old grudge.

“They were brothers. Being in each other’s heads in The Drift, they know each other’s thoughts, so they have great moments of hashing out what happened in the past.”

I’ve said this plenty before, but so far, I’m really enjoying all I’m hearing. Yes, it all sounds and looks cartoony and silly, but it’s at least wrapping up a real emotional core. Should they tackle the execution (with Steven DeKnight at the helm, I have no doubt they will), this could end up being something pretty special.

Pacific Rim 2 hits theaters on March 23, 2018.
